I am your fah-thah

Leave it to George Lucas to mess with the fanboys’ collective mind – by now it must be like shooting fish in a barrel for him. The cheers over the upcoming release of the unaltered Star Wars trilogy on DVD have turned to jeers after more details have surfaced. Basically, Lucas is just taking the versions from the ’93 laserdisc editions and slapping them on DVD. That means 2-channel audio and non-anamorphic transfers. For someone who is supposedly obsessed with the best video/audio presentation of his movies, this just smacks of spite – an elaborate stick in the eye to the legions who have been clamoring for the originals – “Oh, you want the originals? Here you go.” And then if the sales fall flat, Lucas can claim nobody truly wanted the original versions anyway.

First off, I had to jump through hoops just to REGISTER to comment up in here! What’s the gag?

Secondly, those DVD’s look like effin’ crap. Welcome to Dumpsville, Population: SUCKERS. A recent HDTV convert myself, that non-anamorphic business is for the birds.

And you know they’re going to release 50 uber-definitive editions of the same movies on BluRay/HD-DVD and then 3-D VR Sensorama.

Fool me thrice…

I’m still investigating the comment system – the WordPress default settings make it like Fort Knox up in here. There are a ton of comment plugins WP, though, so I’m hopeful that I’ll find one that’s more user-friendly.
